Set Goals and Not Resolutions This New Year
I know that it’s been a while since we’ve posted a blog post here. I did originally plan to do a week full of blog posts for you, but then life really did get in the way.
That and I thought after a daily set of posts for 24 days, it was time to hold back a little. It’s time to get into a routine for the New Year. Then I realized that the routine that I want to do is post on a daily week day basis. That means Monday to Friday you will get content and Saturdays you’ll get it once or twice a month.
So all these thoughts led me to the whole New Year resolutions thing. We tend to make resolutions at the start of January. Then in two or three weeks time, we completely blow them. They’re not resolutions that we keep for the year and most of us don’t even feel bad about it.
After all, resolutions are constantly broken. Why should we be any different?
Make Goals Not Resolutions
Instead of making resolutions, I’m going to make some New Year goals. This is my chance to make it clear what I want to achieve and set up a plan to achieve those goals.
I believe in SMART goals. These are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time goals. They are those that I can actually see the results and know that I have achieved success. They’re also goals that I can work on if I find that I’m slipping.
This is something that I do throughout Christmas Week in the run up to the New Year. I’ve not set them yet but I will have the goals by January 1 and I will have a plan of attack.

Setting Topics for the Day
Something that I want to do with blogging is having a topic of the day for each day of the week. Cheeky Monkey Gifts is the hardest site of all the ones that I own to do something like this. It’s the least predictable and set up completely different to the rest.
But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to try.
Over the next few days I’ll put together a plan to see if I can offer a topic of the day. As soon as I have it I will share it with you.
To give you an idea of the type of plan I’m trying to create, I’ll share the ideas for one of my blogs. This is for my student survival site, and I plan to do:
- Money Mondays
- Tips and Tricks Tuesdays
- Weight Loss and Management Wednesdays
- Thrive Thursdays
- Figure It Out Fridays
- Study and Socialise Saturdays
Do you see the type of goal I’m after?
Will you set goals this year? They won’t necessarily be for a blog but for your life. Step away from the New Year resolutions and work with the New Year goals instead. You’re more likely to stick to them and find you feel amazing for achieving them by the end of the year.
